Some Fun Facts About Clifford University
Nestled in Ihie, Abia State, Nigeria, Clifford University stands as a beacon of academic excellence, its story interwoven with dedication, resilience, and a commitment to Christian values. Recently receiving its official charter from the Federal Ministry of Education and accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC), Clifford University has solidified its place within the Nigerian academic landscape. Significantly, it joins a distinguished network of 144 tertiary institutions operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, extending a global tradition of faith-based education.
- A Welcoming Environment Rooted in Adventist Values
Clifford University fosters an environment of inclusivity, welcoming students from diverse backgrounds – sex, race, tribe, nationality, religion, or political affiliation. However, the university upholds the Seventh-day Adventist Standards, providing students with a strong foundation in Christian values that complements their academic pursuits.
- Unwavering Dedication to Educational Excellence
At Clifford University, the pursuit of exceptional quality education remains paramount. The university is dedicated to providing inclusive and equitable opportunities for all students. This unwavering commitment ensures that every individual receives the support and resources they need to flourish academically and reach their full potential.
- A Legacy Rooted in Missionary Work and Visionary Beginnings
The story of Clifford University intertwines with the pioneering spirit of Pastor and Mrs. Jesse Clifford from England. Their unwavering dedication sowed the seeds of Adventist education in Eastern Nigeria, laying the groundwork for a future rich in educational initiatives and missionary work. Inspired by their vision, a new chapter unfolded.
- From Vision to Realität: The Establishment Process
The seeds of Clifford University were sown during a pivotal management meeting at the Adventist Secondary Technical College, Owerrinta. This vision gained momentum when the Executive Committee of the Eastern Nigerian Union Mission (ENUM) formed a committee tasked with establishing a vocational college. This committee later evolved into a statutory Technical Committee for the establishment of Clifford University. In recognition of Pastor and Mrs. Jesse Clifford’s invaluable contributions, the university was named after them, with Owerrinta chosen as its intended location.
- Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Progress
The path to establishment wasn’t without its obstacles. The university witnessed leadership transitions within the Union and the Technical Committee. However, a significant turning point arrived with the intervention of the Governor of Abia State. His critical role in facilitating the return of schools to their original missionary owners paved the way for the certification of occupancy for Clifford University’s campuses at Ihie and Owerrinta.
