The highest score for Jamb is 400 point, which mean for the four subjects every students is supposed to write, your total mark there is your Jamb score.

Every subject is award a total score of 100, so if you get 50 in each of the 4 subjects, then your total jamb score should be 200 point.

If you are able to meet up with the Jamb Cut-off mark, then you will be given admission by Jamb first before your school can give you.

1. JAMB Method Used To Mark/Score English in UTME

Use of Englis has the total of 60 questions, this means that jamb will set the total of 60 questions for all citizen irrespective of which school or course you are going for.

But this doesn’t mean that the total score for the Use of English is 60 marks in all. In fact, it’s 100 marks for this compulsory subject.

UTME English Marking: Evaluation/Assessment

SECTION A: Comprehension/Summary

Comprehension Passages Questions 3 marks each
Cloze Passage Questions 2 marks each
Reading Text (the Life Changer) Questions 1 mark each

 

NOTE: A cloze passage is a reading exercise where certain words are left out, and students have to fill in the blanks with the correct words. Their answers are considered correct if they exactly match the missing words. This is also called REGISTER.

SECTION B: Lexis Structure

Sentence Interpretation Questions 2 marks each
Antonyms Questions 2 marks each
Synonyms Questions 1 mark each
Sentence Completion Questions 1 mark each

 

SECTION C: Oral Forms

Question Test on Oral 1 mark each

 

If the total score for English set for you is 60 but you scored 50, JAMB calculates your percentage like this: 45/60×100 (in percentage) So, your mark will be 83.33%.

This calculation aligns with the official JAMB syllabus explanation for their 100 questions standard.

2. JAMB Method Used to Mark Other Three Subjects UTME

Since you have three other subjects besides English, here is the official marking scheme for them.

JAMB sets 40 questions for each of the other subjects. Each question is worth 2.5 marks. So, the three subjects together add up to 300 marks (i.e., 40 x 2.5 x 3 subjects). In other words, each of the three subjects will have a total of 100 marks (40 x 2.5).

The Calculation for Each of the Other Subjects

If you score 35 out of 40 in each of Chemistry, Physics, and Biology (for example), JAMB calculates your percentage like this: 25 X 2.5 = 63% (in percentage) that will be 25/40 %

Assuming you score the same in the other two subjects, each will also give you 63%.

Finally, your UTME score will be calculated as follows: 75+63+63+63 = 263 over 400.
