Some Fun Facts About Kogi State Polytechnic

Kogi State Polytechnic, a prominent institution in Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria, boasts a rich history and a vibrant presence in the educational landscape. Here are some interesting facts unveiled about this esteemed polytechnic:

  • A Founding Father: Kogi State Polytechnic was established in December 1992. The credit for its inception goes to Prince Abubakar Audu, the 1st and 2nd Executive Governor of Kogi State. An amended edict No. 6 of 1994 officially brought the polytechnic into existence.

  • From Humble Beginnings to Flourishing Institution: The polytechnic commenced its operations in January 1993. It initially functioned from two campuses: Government Science Secondary School, Lokoja and Osara Campus. Dr. Isa I.A. had the distinction of being appointed as the first Rector, paving the way for the polytechnic’s future endeavors.

  • A Hallmark of Achievement: In 2007, a significant milestone was reached when Kogi State Polytechnic received accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). This accreditation empowered the polytechnic to award certificates in various fields, including Art and Printing, Business, Engineering, Finance, and Science Computing. The certificates offered were at the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) levels.

  • Striving for Excellence: Kogi State Polytechnic’s commitment to growth and development was further exemplified in December 2009. During this time, the polytechnic presented 16 programs for accreditation to a visiting team of NBTE officials. These programs were primarily focused on the newly established schools of Engineering and Environmental Technology, Applied Science, and Management Studies. The Rector’s vision was clear: to offer core engineering and technology programs, thereby fulfilling the polytechnic’s core mandate of producing skilled professionals.

  • Investing in the Future: The Kogi State government actively demonstrated its support for the polytechnic. In October 2005, a testament to this commitment was witnessed when Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, the governor at the time, approved the disbursement of N80 million to the polytechnic. This financial aid further bolstered the institution’s ability to provide quality education and equip students for successful careers.

  • A Celebration of Success: The year 2005 also marked a momentous occasion for Kogi State Polytechnic. It held its first convocation ceremony, celebrating the academic achievements of students from the academic sessions ranging from 1992/93 to 2003/2004. A total of 21,646 students graduated, marking a significant achievement for the polytechnic and its alumni.
